Jeff List
Jeff is a senior associate attorney whose practice focuses on criminal defense and the immigration consequences of criminal convictions — what the firm calls crimmigration. He is a Colorado native, a former U.S. Law professor in Istanbul, and is fluent in Spanish and Turkish.
I am a Colorado native who earned my degree in Economics from DePaul University in Chicago in 2004. After a successful career in the Chicago hotel industry, I pursued my law degree at American University Washington College of Law, graduating in 2012. As a professor of law and practitioner, I taught U.S. Law in Istanbul, Turkey before returning home to advocate for the rights of the accused. I am fluent in Spanish and Turkish, and conversational in German. During my time in Istanbul, I had a cameo appearance in a Turkish film.
My legal practice focuses on criminal defense and other state-court adjudications, including juvenile matters. I have represented immigrants and community members in all criminal courts, handling cases ranging from municipal infractions to felony murder trials. I have collaborated extensively with the DEA and Colorado drug task forces, consistently achieving strong results for clients. As an attorney with Novo Legal Group, I am well-versed in immigration law — particularly the intersection between criminal defense and immigration law, often referred to as crimmigration. I frequently handle post-conviction motions and obtain new dispositions that successfully avoid immigration consequences that were previously unknown or misrepresented to the defendant.
I regularly appear in metro district courts from Colorado Springs to Larimer County, as well as in Eagle, Vail, and Avon. At Novo Legal, I represent community members in a wide range of legal matters — and my deep understanding of the intersection between criminal defense and immigration law lets me fight for outcomes that protect a client's record and their immigration future at the same time.
