Crystel was born and raised in Denver, Colorado, to parents who immigrated from Guerrero, Mexico, along with her two older brothers. She attended the University of Colorado Boulder, where she studied Ethnic Studies and minored in Italian. She was drawn to Ethnic Studies because of its focus on race, gender, and ethnicity—areas deeply shaped by power structures. With immigration being a personal topic, her studies gave her a broader understanding of the challenges that immigrants face when navigating complex systems.

Outside of work, Crystel enjoys discovering new places, whether it’s a restaurant, museum, or local event. She also loves arts and crafts and spends time creating when inspiration strikes. In the summer, she takes every opportunity to be outdoors, exploring and experiencing new destinations.
